Getting Started with Hybrid Audience Research

Combine your own audience and Attest panel to get a fuller view of the market

Updated this week

Hybrid research lets you send the same survey to both your own audience and Attest’s panel respondents, then analyse and compare the results in a single dashboard. This makes it easy to understand how existing customers compare to potential customers, without stitching data together manually.

Hybrid research is useful when you want to:

  • Compare existing customers with future or untapped audiences

  • Validate whether customer feedback reflects the wider market

  • Enrich customer insight with panel data

  • Run more complex studies, such as multi-market or multi-wave research

By analysing both audiences side by side, you can spot meaningful differences and make decisions with greater confidence.

Drafting a hybrid survey

When creating your survey, start by drafting your questions as you normally would. Hybrid surveys support the same question types and logic as standard Attest surveys.

On the Audience page, you can add one or more Attest panel audiences and one or more own audience groups to the same survey. This allows you to compare results directly later on.

For own audience surveys, Attest generates a survey link that you can share with your respondents. The link becomes active once the survey is launched.

Using respondent IDs

If you want to identify individual respondents from your own audience, you can add a unique respondent ID to the end of the survey URL. This allows you to track who has responded and link survey answers to uploaded demographic data.

Importing your own audience data

To enrich your results, you can upload a CSV file containing information about your own audience. This allows you to filter results, create segments and build crosstabs using your customer data.

Your file should be formatted as a table with column headings in the first row. We recommend placing respondent IDs in the first column to make mapping easier. You can download an example CSV to help you get started.

What data you can upload

You can upload custom attributes such as account age, subscription type or region, as long as the data does not include personal identifiers.

You can also match your data to Attest demographics for age and gender, which allows direct comparison between your own audience and Attest panel respondents. Age must be uploaded as a whole number, and only “Male” and “Female” values can be matched to Attest’s gender demographic. Other values will still be stored as a custom attribute.

If your file contains small inconsistencies, such as slightly different labels for the same value, these will be treated as separate attributes. You can edit and clean your data after upload if needed.

Analysing and comparing results

Once your survey is live, results from your own audience and Attest panel will appear in the same results dashboard.

You can:

  • Split results by audience to compare customers and non-customers

  • Apply filters and segments using both Attest demographics and your imported attributes

  • Build crosstabs and charts to explore differences

  • Use automated statistical significance to understand which differences are meaningful

If you have uploaded age and gender data for your own audience, you can compare these directly with Attest panel respondents.

You can use crosstabs and charts, on the Analysis page to compare your audiences side-by-side.

Pricing for hybrid research

Hybrid research uses the same credit system as other Attest surveys. Own audience responses are charged at 25% of the credit cost of a panel response, based on the longest route through the survey. You are only charged for completed responses, and respondents who do not qualify are not billed.

You set a maximum number of respondents in advance, so you always know the maximum cost. If credits run out or the maximum is reached, the survey will automatically close.

Credits for hybrid surveys are always taken from the default credit pot.

FAQs

Can I run multi-market hybrid research?

Yes. You can add multiple audiences in different countries and languages within the same study.

Can I run multi-wave hybrid research?

Yes. You can add or change audiences between waves, for example switching from an own audience survey to a panel survey over time.

Can Attest integrate directly with my CRM?

Direct integrations are not currently supported. If this is important for your setup, speak to your Customer Success Manager.

What happens if my organisation runs out of credits?

If there are no credits available, any live own audience surveys will automatically close and new respondents will not be able to enter.
