Understanding Survey Results and Boards Permissions

More on how permissions work in the Attest Results and Boards experience

Board permissions are linked to your Survey Results permissions in Attest.

By default, all Results (including Boards and Key Findings) are visible to everyone in your organisation.

This article focuses specifically on how Results and Board permissions interact. What a user can see and do depends on:

  1. Whether they have an Attest account.

  2. The permission level applied to the Results and Board.

External users (without an Attest account or logged out)

External users can only access a Board when both the Board and the Results are set to Made Public. If the Board is public but the Results are not, the Board won't be accessible.

When both are set to ‘Made Public’, users with the Board link can view and interact with the Board. Date and wave filters work as expected, while segment filters remain visible and selectable but do not affect the data displayed.

External users can:

  • View Results and Boards shared with them

  • Download individual charts

  • Copy data from Results

They cannot:

  • Use Compass

  • Create Boards

Note: Results, Key Findings, and Boards can each be shared publicly. However, external users can only access the specific item shared with them. For example, if you share a Board link, they can view that Board only and cannot navigate to the associated Results or Key Findings.

Internal users: Results shared, no Board access

Users who have access to Results (either through organisation-wide access or direct invite) but have not been given access to a Board can still explore Results freely. They can:

  • Add splits

  • Edit significance testing

  • Copy data

  • Create new Boards using Compass

They cannot:

  • See the board you have removed their access from

Internal users: Board set to ‘View Only’

Users with View Only access can see the Board but cannot edit it.

Date/wave and segment filters remain visible, but they do not affect the data displayed on the Board. Users can duplicate the Board to create their own editable version.

Compass on ‘View Only’ Boards

Compass can summarise and analyse information already visible on the Board. However, if asked to explore data that isn't displayed—for example, demographic splits not included as charts—it won't be able to do so and may suggest duplicating the Board for further exploration.

Note: These users will still have access to the associated Results and Key Findings, subject to their Results permissions.

A note on Key Findings

The navigation tabs for Key Findings, Results, and Boards are hidden for logged-out users. Shared links now only expose the specific page they point to, giving users more control over what others can view.

What this means:

  • Sharing a link gives the recipient access to that link only

  • Accessing other pages requires a direct link to each one

  • Users who want to share multiple sections will need to share each link individually
