Getting started with results analysis

Learn how you can use the various features on the results dashboard to analyse your data

Updated yesterday

Once your survey has closed, there are a few different ways to start analysing your results in Attest. You can use Compass to quickly surface insights, explore the results dashboard to dig into the data yourself, and then bring everything together in Boards to tell a clear data story.

Start with Compass to surface key insights

If you want a quick starting point, Compass can help you move from raw data to insight without needing to set everything up manually.

Using plain prompts, you can ask Compass to highlight key findings, answer specific questions about your data, or suggest useful ways to visualise results. Compass works inside Boards, where it can create charts and help you turn findings into a clear narrative.

Example prompts include:

  • “Create a board that highlights the main differences between the UK and US when it comes to buying food.”

  • “Which age group is most likely to listen to podcasts weekly?”

  • “Write an executive summary of these charts for a presentation.”

To get started with Compass, create a new Board or open an existing one.

Explore your results in the dashboard

Open a closed survey to access the results dashboard. Each question appears as an answer card showing how respondents answered, with results shown for all respondents by default.

You can view results in a simple overview, or switch to charts to make patterns easier to spot. Within charts, you can make quick display changes such as:

  • Reordering answers

  • Merging answers into groups

  • Changing chart type or colours

These options help you tailor how results are shown without changing the underlying data. For more advanced chart editing, see our guide to editing charts.

Split results to compare groups

Splitting your data helps you understand how different groups responded to the same question. You can split by demographics, answers, waves or audiences using the left-hand panel.

When a split is applied, results are shown as charts by default and statistically significant differences are highlighted automatically. You can adjust the confidence level or turn significance indicators on or off if needed.

For deeper analysis, switch to crosstab view to compare results in a table format or add a stacked variable to explore more complex relationships.

Applying filters

Filters allow you to narrow results to specific groups of respondents. You can filter by demographics, answers, segments, waves or audiences.

Filters can be applied from the left-hand panel or directly by clicking on answers in the overview view. As you filter, the respondent count updates automatically. As a general guide, avoid drawing conclusions from groups smaller than around 50 respondents.

Use segments for more specific comparisons

If you wanted to analyse (split by or filter) your data based on something more granular than simple demographics, you can build your own custom segments. A segment is a combination of two or more conditions, such as demographics, answers to certain questions, waves or countries. When creating a segment, you can also use more flexible AND/OR/NOT logic. Examples of segments could be: female millennials, non-brand buyers. online shoppers, etc.

Analyse open text with AI support

Open text questions can generate large volumes of qualitative data. Attest offers AI-powered summaries and automated text analysis to help you identify themes quickly.

You can explore top keywords, merge related terms and visualise themes using word clouds before diving into individual responses.

Building boards to tell your data story

Boards allow you to bring your analysis together into a clear, shareable view. You can add charts and crosstabs directly from the results dashboard, or start with a Board and build it up as you explore.

Boards support written commentary and custom visuals, making them ideal for sharing insights with stakeholders or revisiting key findings over time.

Compass works alongside Boards to help summarise insights and refine your narrative.

Export and share results

If you need to work outside Attest, you can export results in Excel, CSV or PowerPoint format using the export options in the results dashboard.

Boards can also be shared with others in your organisation, making it easier to align on insights.
