Naming your survey

Learn how to set clear internal and external titles before launching your survey

Before you launch a survey, you will need to name it and choose a research type. These details help respondents understand what they are taking part in and help your team stay organised as you run and analyse research.

You can set and edit your survey name from the banner at the top of the survey editor by clicking the arrow next to the survey title.

External title (required)

The external title is shown to respondents before they take your survey, so it should clearly explain what the survey is about without influencing who chooses to take part.

A good external title is neutral, simple and easy to understand. Avoid language that could attract only people with strong opinions, or discourage others from taking part.

For example, a broad title like “Opinions on current events” is often better than something very specific like “Strong views on the recent general election”, which may put some respondents off.

External titles are required and have a character limit of 100 characters.

Title image (optional)

You can add an optional title image, which is shown to respondents after they opt in to take part.

Title images can help set context or put respondents in the right frame of mind, but they are not required. Keep images neutral and relevant to avoid introducing bias.

If you want to give respondents more detailed context, you can also add a text card at the start of your survey to explain what the survey is about and what to expect.

Internal title

The internal title is only visible to you and your team. It is not shown to respondents.

This is useful if you are running multiple surveys with similar external titles, or if you want to include extra detail such as dates, markets or versions to help you identify surveys internally.

Internal titles also have a 100 character limit.

Type of research

You will also be asked to select a type of research for your survey. This acts as a tag that helps Attest tailor guidance and recommendations for that type of study.

Choosing the right research type helps improve your experience in the platform, but it does not limit how you build or analyse your survey.
